Nintendo never marketed the Wii as having next gen graphics or sound, they marketed it as a new generation of consoles because of it’s peculiar controles. The Wii really doesn’t need flashy graphics and super powerful processors in order to be the best, because it’s downright fun to play. The PS3 has arguably the best graphics ever for a home console, with the exception of that ultra powerful computer they made for CRYSIS, yet it’s being out-sold by it’s younger, cheaper brother, the PS2 because it’s games aren’t quite as developed yet as the games for many of the other consoles.

The Wii may have out-dated technology, but it’s games make up for that in every respect. Think about it for a minute, which would you rather play, Super Mario Galaxies, the top rated game on the market (with the possible exception of Portal), or another HD shoot-em up for one of the other, more expensive, consoles?

Another thing that the Wii has going for it is it’s price point. It’s relatively low price makes it available to a larger market of gamers who can’t afford all of the hardware associated with the more expensive consoles. I don’t want to have to buy an HD TV with all of the associated cables and doo-dads just so that I can get the bestexperience out of my $350-$500 console, I simply can’t afford it.

Added to this is the fact that Nintendo has a lot of long running franchises that work great on it’s newest competitor. Zelda, Mario, and Metroid all have turned out great so far on the little white box.

So for those of you who think that Nintendo should have made a new system that had full HD, put a sock in it.
